Seeking Reliable, Competent, Mature, Caring Animal Caregivers! Applicants must have good verbal and reading comprehension skills and good communication skills. This position includes weekends and holidays. Caregivers are cross-trained for both dogs and cats. Experience is a plus but not necessary. This is a physical position – applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
Description of Duties Includes:
- Feed and water animals.
- Monitor animal health, including checking for signs of illness or injury.
- Clean and maintain animal enclosures per written protocols.
- Exercise and play with animals, as appropriate.
- Administer medication to animals, as prescribed by a veterinarian.
- Bathe and groom animals.
- Provide companionship to animals.
- Train animals, per protocols as needed.
- Respond to emergency situations involving animals.
- Record detailed notes on the animals’ health and behavior.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed when handling animals.
- Monitor animal behavior and report any changes ASAP.
- Communicate with the public about animal care and welfare.
- Assist with veterinary treatments or procedures, as needed.
- Provide good customer service to potential adopters.
- Maintain Association of Shelter Vets Standards of Care for Shelters.
