ANIMAL CAREGIVER – FULL TIME ONLY

Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretakers to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for animals and a strong commitment to their well-being. As an Animal Caretaker, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to our animals. This includes all animals’ nutrition, housing, behavioral, physical and medical needs are met on a daily basis. This role requires both physical stamina and the ability to interact positively with staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Provide daily care for animals including feeding, medicating, grooming, and exercising.
  • Maintain clean and safe living environments for all animals.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to managerial staff.
  • Engage with visitors, providing excellent customer service and answering questions about individual animals.
  • Support training programs for animals as needed, including basic obedience and behavioral training.
  • Perform heavy lifting as required for larger animals or equipment.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen, with clear comprehension of English language.
  • Must report to work in inclement weather.
  • Must possess reliable personal transportation.
  • Ability to understand verbal & written directions.
  • Positive respectful attitude at all times, even under stress.
  • Work independently, be reliable and trustworthy.
  • Ability to work a fluctuating schedule.
  • Ability to work well with others – employees, volunteers, visitors.
  • Be physically fit and able to walk/handle large animals, in all types of weather, multiple times daily.
  • Ability to bend, clean, walk throughout the work day.
  • Handle equipment/supplies weighing 50 lbs. or more.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of animal care practices and handling techniques.
  • Excellent customer service skills to effectively communicate with visitors.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is preferred but not necessary.
  • Ability to work in kennel environments and manage multiple animals simultaneously.
  • Capability to perform heavy lifting safely when required.
  • Knowledge of dog training methods is beneficial.

FULL TIME & RELIEF VETERINARIAN(S) WANTED:

The Worcester County Humane Society is a small, limited admissions, private shelter seeking a full-time veterinarian for the dual purpose of caring for shelter animals and performing feline/canine spays/neuters at our HQHV spay & neuter clinic.

We are located on the beautiful lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, just outside Ocean City. Great beach and outdoor activity area! We advocate and support a good work/life balance.

Knowledge and experience of HQHV spaying & neutering, from pediatrics to geriatrics; dentals, and various surgical procedures necessary. Being board certified in shelter medicine a plus. 32-40-hour work week, Monday – Friday. Limited emergency callouts. Good communication skills and computer literacy a must.

Veterinarian will conduct daily rounds, examine, treat, and monitor ill & healthy animals, develop treatment plans, maintain excellent medical records, help develop and write shelter Standard Operation Procedures which promote good shelter practices and population well-being.

Veterinarian will ensure that all state and federal laws, state regulations, accepted standards, and SAWA policies and procedures regarding clinic operations, the practice of veterinary medicine, drug control, and animal care and handling are adhered to.

Requirements:
• Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
• License to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Maryland.
• Current DEA license for controlled substances.

Veterinarian will work with our full time Veterinarian Technician, and trained staff, and report to the Board of Directors and be a part of our management team.

Salary & benefits negotiable and will commensurate with experience and skills.

Also seeking relief veterinarians to work contractually in our low cost spay & neuter clinic. Salary is negotiable; HQHV training/experience a plus.
